ZAMZEE: Ignite a Lifetime of Activity in Every Kid.
HopeLab Foundation is a leading nonprofit organization – and one of four U.S. firms to be honored by President Obama for ground-breaking work in developing products that improve kids’ health. Developing a device to address the burgeoning kids’ obesity epidemic was next on their list.
THE CHALLENGE // Increasing numbers of studies have shown that sedentary behavior is a key contributor to the problem of childhood obesity – and that physical activity levels often decrease significantly during the tween years – ages 11-14. Armed with research, some field trials, and a basic prototype, HopeLab needed a uniquely insightful design partner to help them create the next revolution in kids’ activity meter devices. They chose NONOBJECT.
DEVELOPING A FUN, LIVELY, RUGGED “ACTIVITY BUDDY” ZAMZEE
NONOBJECT delved deep into HopeLab’s research and field trial data, developing every aspect of a range of lively, compact designs that kids would love. HopeLab chose the classic “pebble” design for Zamzee, a compact kids’ activity meter that clips securely to clothing and won’t shake off, even when kids run, jump, hop, or swim. Our team integrated exciting product design with mechanical design of the secure clip for a winning combination.
Kids contributed to every step of the Zamzee development process. NONOBJECT used the kids’ insights – provided by HopeLab’s superb research team – to help them develop Zamzee’s design and user experience innovation.
A WINNER WITH KIDS
NONOBJECT provided highly original user experience, design, and engineering innovation to produce an enthralling device based on the poetic and inspiring “pebble” form factor. Zamzee firmly grips onto kids’ clothing, whether it’s a thin dress, a belt, or a pocket using highly unique “super-clip” our team developed. It’s as fun and easy to use as it is to hold, grip. Kids love the way product works, and they can’t wait until it hits the market later this year.
Zamzee is fun, it’s social, and it works – HopeLab research shows teens with Zamzee move around 30% more, nearly an extra marathon a month. HopeLab’s work with Zamzee is generously supported in part by the Robert Wood Johnson foundation.
